St Vincent’s Volunteer Honoured with Papal Award
St Vincents Private Hospital is very pleased to announce that the President of Friends of St Vincents, Ann Spillane has been awarded the Papal Medal Benemerenti from the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI.
Ann Spillane was presented with the Citation and Medal by the Bishop of Lismore, Most Reverend Geoffrey Jarrett, at a special mass in February, before her family and friends.
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Frank Hannigan said the Pope has bestowed the honour especially in recognition of the forty years Ann has given to St Vincents as President of the Friends of St Vincents and Friends of St Carthage’s Cathedral.
“Pope Benedict was notified of Ann’s great work and the fantastic efforts of the Volunteers under her leadership,” said Mr Hannigan.
In a letter from Bishop Jarrett, Ann was congratulated and thanked for her “generous contribution to the life of the Church in this city”.
“Under Ann’s leadership the Friends group have assisted in the refurbishment and beautification of St Carthage’s Cathedral, as well as the high standard of services provided at St Vincents,” said Bishop Jarrett.
The Citation and Medal was received from Rome through the Apostolic Nunciature in Canberra.
