Falls Prevention

Your risk of having a fall whilst in hospital is assessed on admission using a falls screening assessment tool. If you are at risk of falling, your nurse will provide you and/or your carer with strategies to assist you whilst you are in hospital which also may be used for when you go home.

It is important to tell the nurse if you have had previous falls at home and please seek assistance when you are moving about whilst in hospital.  There are a number of factors that may increase your risk of falling whilst in hospital including: a change in your medical condition causing you to be more unsteady on your feet, adapting to a new environment, a change to your medications and walking in unsafe footwear or slippers. Our aim is to keep you safe by assessing your risk and implementing strategies specifically for you.  Click on the link for information on how to reduce your risk of having a fall in hospital.
