Palliative Care
Compassionate support for patients and families
St Vincent’s Palliative Care Service is unique in that the private and public health care sector and the local community work together to provide a 24-hour, seven day per week service to patients, their families and carers.
The Palliative Care Team works closely with General Practitioners to provide quality care, compassion and support. The support mechanism also includes a team of specially trained volunteers.
The nine bed Palliative Care Unit at St Vincent’s has a dedicated team of multidisciplinary staff including specialised palliative care nurses. It provides a unique service in our region.
The service provides co-ordination with other services and includes advice on pain and symptom control, spiritual, emotional and bereavement support along with after hours care for registered patients.
- Private and Public patients can be admitted.
- The Unit provides ongoing symptom management and End of Life Care.
- Admissions can be direct from the community, patients do not need to go to a public ED first.
- After hours and weekend admissions are accepted.

Outstanding Accreditation Results
We are proud to report St Vincent’s received a perfect score across all safety and quality standards in its recent ACHS health standards review. Three assessors over three days, and the hospital demonstrated compliance across eight National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards with zero unmet requirements, and no recommendations.
Successful EA Agreement for Nurses
Good News! In December last year a deal was voted up by St Vincent’s nursing staff to approve a proposed Enterprise Bargaining Agreement which was hailed by the nurse’s union as a solid offer, and acknowledged by nurses as a good deal.
